My dad told me

I didn’t know anything about it until I had it. I had it in school, but didn’t realize it until I got home riding my bicycle. My skirt was stained red when I reached home. I was freaking out at this involuntary bleeding. Then, my dad sat me down and explained everything.

Thought I was dying!

I was at my house when I got my period. I started crying and rushed to my mom because I thought I was dying. I told my mom and she started laughing and I got so angry! But then, she explained that it was normal and every I was going to have it every month.

Waited for four hours to ask

It was in Ramadan and I was at school when it all arrived. After school I went back home and didn’t know what to say to my mother. Waited for nearly 4 hours and then asked her about what was happening to me. I was very scared and thought I was bleeding.

Pain is not bearable

I got periods for the first time at my home. Was about to take bath and that is when I came to know and ran to my mom. Initially, I had problem walking with sanitary napkins but eventually it was all okay. The pain is not bearable though.

A “New” New year

I had my first period on New Year’s Eve in 8th grade. I was relaxing, watching TV, when all of a sudden I felt a small cramp. Thinking it was gastrointestinal, I ignored it for a bit until I had to pee. I went into the bathroom and noticed that there seemed to be something in my underwear. So I wiped *down there* and yep, it was blood. So I went to my mom and told her I thought I had started. She was so nonchalant about it, just looked at me and was like “Okay. Pad or tampon?” I was scared of tampons at that time so of course did pad. Flash forward a few days when schools starts up again. That morning, my period seemed to be over, and I was so happy I wouldn’t have to worry about being on my period while at school. Well, as most girls know by now, you can’t trust when it stopped, so I started again about halfway through the day. Luckily there wasn’t a lot of blood so I just did the typical “Oops I don’t have anything with me, time to shove some toilet paper in there” and did that until I got home.

Felt helpless

I got my first period during my summer vacations after 10th grade at age of 16. I was feeling very dirty and helpless. But then my mother told me that this is real and I need not worry about this.

Did not understand what was happening!

I honestly don’t even remember when I first got my period, and I was not sure what to classify as first, because it started with some dark discharge before it become more bloody.
I didn’t feel much when I have my period, so I used to go to the restroom and find out my period had started, but because it is not heavy either, it was never that bad (no horrible consequences). Though because the period was unpredictable and I did not feel it, I started taking the contraceptive (after a year of having the period, that’s the minimum time my doctor required before you could start contraceptive), such that I would know exactly when it would start and could prepare.

Happily sleeping!

I was having a nap after school and was wearing a frock. Because of this, my mom saw blood stains on my underwear and woke me up to teach me how to use a sanitary pad.

I’m very curious about menstrual cups. Even after watching tons of videos on them, I’m still not sure of inserting something inside my body but I’ll give it a try someday.

Worried about height

Oh, all I could think of was ‘my height wouldn’t grow now’ and I was very sad. I didn’t suffer from pain when I had periods for the first time. But I was so not comfortable using pads and I used to suffer leakage at nights! Worst thing🙄

I googled most of the things about period after my first periods only!

PS: best thing which followed 1st periods was a 3 days leave from school😂
